As part of a trip through the Southwest, I travelled into the Needles District of Canyonlands National Park.  This is a spectacular area that is only accessible with high clearance 4 wheel drive and requires permits for travel and camping.  It is an extremely technical 4wd road over Elephant Hill, so do some research if you plan on going.  The photo opportunities are endless here with amazing rock formations everywhere you look.
